Brockwell Bone, Concerned Citizen

I just received an email update from GovTrack.us, a federal legislation tracking website, that announced the Child Safe Viewing Act of 2007 has been passed.

This act requests the FCC to research all methods of filtering media content from internet filtering, DVD filtering, cell phone content filtering, and other filters that may be necessary in the future. The focus of the bill is to ensure that parents can protect their children from inappropriateĀ online, video, television, and other media content.

This bill was first introduced in February of 2007 by Senator Mark Pryor (D-AR). While it has taken over a year to pass, it shows that morals still exist in the hearts of our representatives.

Free will and free market note: I believe that this legislation is unnecessary and that the government need not require nor build filtering technologies. This is something that good parents seek to protect their children anyway. And where their is a customer, a product will soon arrive.

Some products that already exist:

Safe Eyes Internet Filtering Service

ClearPlay Filtered DVD System
