During the Obama Infomercial last week, I took many notes, shed tears for fears, and had to wait this long before writing about it due to emotional overload involved. I felt up and down and all over the board from “these poor people are being exploited by Obama” to complete anger.

Barrack Obama discussed his economic policies – something important to a conservative like myself. In the non-mainstream media, I have heard about the distorted “cut off” for the “rich” level of our country … $300k, $250k, $200k, $150k of income each year. I can understand two different figures from the Obama campaign due to one being single and the other being married, but 4 different levels?!

Senator Obama proceeded to bash on Exxon-Mobil and the profits that they recently reported. Yes, they made a lot of money, but they are also one of the largest (income wise) companies in the United States. What was their money by percentage? Was it severely inflated over other companies in the United States making them greedy?

The democratic candidate wants to cut taxes for everyone … this is awesome … except he does not want to cut taxes for those making over a certain income level (one of the 4 figures above). If Obama gets his way, he would probably increase taxes on large, profitable companies like Exxon-Mobil.

This is not good … if he decides to move to the next level and “cap” the profit they are allowed to make, he is hurting the entire economy. When a profitable business owner(s) makes a lot of money, he tends to spend it! This is called Trickle Down economics, the profitable business owner eats out more (supporting restaurants, food suppliers, power companies, wait staff, and low level employees like janitors), he buys “toys” like boats (supporting dealership owners, sales men, manufacturing facilities, service technicians in the future, and gas companies), need I go on.

Sidenote, I plan to write in the coming weeks about “Trickle Down” vs. “Beat Down” economics. Send a blank email to subscribe@brockwellbone.com to receive this article as soon as its available.

Senator Obama claims that he wants to rebuild the modern military. From other speeches and debates, I picked up that he wants nuclear disarmament. I, personally, am on the fence about this. On one hand, we are hypocrites to stop other nations from getting nuclear technology; on the other, if we disarm, we are not “keeping with the (military) times”.

On the housing “crisis” (Everything is a crisis this year!! Did you notice?!), Senator Obama wants a 90 day foreclosure freeze. Feels good, sounds good on the surface; however, if those in a state of foreclosure are not booted from the homes that they can no longer afford, banks and home owners will suffer.

Banks will be stuck with a non-income producing asset; hold a piece of property, pay their debt on it (through CDs, loans from other institutions, savings accounts, etc), but will not be able to collect money for them. This will inevitably lead to a massive bank failure in our country, worse than the one that the recent bank bailout addressed!

In 2006, the average home mortgage payment was $1,687 a month (per wiki.answers.com). When a home owner is in foreclosure, they are typically 3 months (payments) behind - $5,061. If there is a 90 day foreclosure freeze, wouldn’t this make the home owner 6 payments behind – over $10,000? How could anyone possibly catch up!!!! Unless there is a huge redistribution of wealth in that time, very few could catch up and continue making their payments.

Why did this infomercial deeply disturb me? Most Americans have two income households, children, and are financially stressed right now. Picture this, you come home from work, your spouse comes home from work – supper needs to be made and eaten – and homework needs to be done. By the time all of this is over, its primetime. Most want to relax in front of the TV, not stop and research our candidates. Americans listen to the mainstream media/evening news, see campaign commercials, and make up their minds based on these skewed sources of information.

Last Tuesday, this evening routine occurred and rather than watching House, M.D., Barrack Obama had taken over you television. His beautifully written and produced propagandic infomercial pulled your heartstrings with stories of despair, filled your head with utopic ideas to solve them, and a promise of Change.

Barrack Obama has several ideas to improve our country. But, he has not fully explained how he is going to fund them. He (nor McCain) cannot change anything without the approval of Congress (which leans in Obama’s favor right now). And many of these ideas and existing governmental policies are not mandated nor protected by the Constitution; nor were they part of the Founders vision for our country.

This infomercial is border line propaganda in my personal opinion and put me in tears for fear that it persuaded voters to support Barrack Obama. It was well staged as Obama pre-written speeches and presentations are. It was well written to relate to the middle class and poor while pulling heartstrings. It was scheduled to hit this audience before they unwound too much from their day, hitting them at a tiring point of the day. And delivered a message of hope to those swamped in today’s world.

While John McCain is not my Perfect Candidate, his policies and positions on the issues are more inline with repairing our socialistic slide in the American government. He is neck-and-neck with Obama while running on far less financing – what message does this send?
